Paste your text below, and hit the button to get the amount of characters.
Because it gives you you a quick and easy way to instantly get the amount of characters, that you type og paste into the box. The resulting amount is yours to enjoy. You can copy the result and use it anyway you want.
I made this service because I know people often need to create and work with text under different restrictions - often with a maximum amount of characters or numbers. If you find the counter here helpful, I would greatly appreciate if you'd share this page with your friends online. Let's make a difference together.
It is actually very simple, and it only uses a few lines of JavaScript to count the text in the box. So the JavaScript-function is called every time you add a new character or number, to make the result update live. Easy, right?
During my daily work I often need to create small bits and pieces of text; A title no longer than 80 characters, a description no longer than 180 characters and so on. And I know I am not the only one who needs a tool, that quickly can count chars, so of course I build one. I use it myself and I hope you will too!
I promise you, there is no strings attached if you decide to use this tool. It is totally free, and without limitations. So count away! I simply hope the counter will make your day just a little bit easier and more effective, just as it did mine. Maybe I am biased, but if I was you, I'd bookmark this page right away.
Thank you for stopping by, I hope the online char counter did its job, and that you'd like to return again in the future. Meanwhile I might launch even more tools, that can make everyday life easier for people working with text, online and such.
Yes. The character total counts everything you paste, spaces and punctuation included. Words, sentences and paragraphs are counted separately.
Different tools treat trailing spaces and line breaks differently. Social platforms add their own rules on top: X, for instance, counts every link as a fixed length no matter how long the URL really is.
Every one of them is listed on the character limits page, along with the point at which each platform stops showing your text, which is often thousands of characters before the limit itself. Paste your text there and it is measured against all of them at once.
Any run of characters with whitespace on either side. A hyphenated word counts as one, and a number counts as a word.
A sentence ends at a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. A paragraph is a block with a blank line after it, so a single line break inside a block does not start a new paragraph.
Yes, on every keystroke. That makes it easier to write to a limit than to write first and trim afterwards.
